Hardship leads to heartache
But hearthache teaches life
And life provides what’s beautiful
Unyielding, undisguised.
But sometimes there’s a moment
An undiscovered time or two
You close your eyes and pray
That someone else is prayin’ too.
This life can be misleading
But it always proves so fair
You close your eyes and plow on through
When the answers are not there.
Well sometimes there’s an instance
When the day turns to the night
You raise your vision to the skies
And sing with all your might.
Guard me, guard me, guard me, guard me
From this expectation
Guard me, guard me, guard me when
My will meets hesitation.
The clock of life is spinnin’and
I can’t be left behind
My training wheels just now released
And I’m fearin’ my first try.
Your thoughts have been recycled
Reduced, reused so many times
These thoughts, these prayers, these disbeliefs
Have put your mind on overtime.
Well sometimes there’s a second
When the doubt won’t go away
You hope the night, won’t cancel the light
That gets you through the day.
Guard me, guard me, guard me, guard me.
Guard me, guard me, guard me.
